Meet Allison, a client relations and resource specialist at Firespring. She works with our clients on their Springboard website projects and also manages client resources, such as FAQ articles and webinars. Allison has a background in education, so helping others is right in her wheelhouse. She finds it rewarding to teach people to learn new skills that will benefit their organization. Similarly, she finds that same satisfaction in her volunteer work.
Firespring’s Power of 3 program encourages all team members to volunteer at least 3% of their time to causes they care about. That’s around eight hours a month dedicated to serving others.
Allison has been volunteering at a local faith-based nonprofit called Jacob’s Well for about 5 years—specifically for a program called Kids at the Well. Its purpose is to provide dinner and fellowship for neighborhood children every Tuesday evening. They do this by playing games, crafting and helping with homework when necessary.
Founded by her friend Mark, Jacob’s Well is close to Allison’s heart. She said, “He came to me with the need for volunteers, and was specifically looking for someone who had experience working with children. So it was a natural fit for me.” Before Firespring, Allison had been a paraeducator with LPS. After a tough year of uncertainty, the kids (and Allison) are overjoyed to be back together.
Volunteering has taught Allison a level of patience that she carries with her into her career. She says that teaching a new skill takes a similar level of patience that she’s honed while working the Kids at the Well crew.
Allison feels that we have an obligation to serve the community, but making time for volunteering can be difficult. Allison has made Kids at the Well a priority each week, and it’s been especially easy with encouragement and support from Firespring. Kids at the Well has given her the opportunity to not only create relationships with the kids, but she’s also gained some of her closest friends. After the kids leave, she looks forward to chatting with friends, and sometimes they even play Yahtzee!
