LINCOLN, Neb.—Hundreds of local nonprofits were nominated for a joint $50,000 “nonprofit lottery” giveaway announced by Firespring and Nonprofit Hub this past Thanksgiving.
On New Year’s Eve, Nebraska No Kill Canine Rescue was randomly drawn as the lucky winner.
The $50,000 package includes three years of free rent at Nonprofit Hub’s new downtown Lincoln coworking facility and a three-year subscription to Firespring’s premium nonprofit website and Cloud IT products including unlimited support.
Nebraska No Kill Canine Rescue is a foster home-based rescue organization with a 97 percent adoption success rate. They aim to help dogs with behavioral or medical rehabilitation, as well as dogs that might need special home accommodations to reach their full potential.
Karl Skinner, executive director of Nebraska No Kill Canine Rescue, said the prize would ultimately increase the organization’s reach and ability to save the lives of dogs.
“This award will put us in a position to grow at a rate we’ve never seen before. The Nonprofit Hub space will give us great exposure to the UNL campus and downtown business community, which are both brimming with potential volunteers,” Skinner said. “In addition, the website Firespring will help us build is going to enable us to reach more potential volunteers and adopters throughout the state.”
“Firespring has always been a big supporter of our local nonprofit community and, with Nonprofit Hub’s facility opening on Jan. 12, we felt the time was right to up our investment,” said Firespring CEO Jay Wilkinson. “We’re excited about what this will do for local nonprofits and Nebraska No Kill Canine Rescue in particular will have the opportunity to transform the way they operate.”
The giveaway follows Firespring’s recent $1 million donation to Nonprofit Hub to create a nonprofit coworking facility in downtown Lincoln. The 12,000-square-foot office will include work-ready spaces for more than 100 people, access to wifi, printers and office supplies as well as reception services and a permanent address to receive mail.
The $1 million donation to Nonprofit Hub and joint $50,000 giveaway both celebrate Firespring’s status as the first Certified B Corporation in Nebraska, a designation that recognizes the company’s social and environmental impact.
In July, Firespring joined more than one thousand Certified B Corps in 34 countries across the world, including TOMS Shoes, Ben & Jerry’s, Warby Parker and Patagonia.
