Putting things in print can be scary, since unlike the internet, once it’s printed it’s not easily editable. That’s why creating and signing off on your wedding invitations can be so intimidating—what if you forgot something important?
Have no fear, bride- or groom-to-be! By asking yourself these five questions, you can put your mind at ease knowing you’ve covered all your wedding day bases.
Am I on schedule?
Your wedding invitations should arrive approximately two months before your wedding. To make sure you’ve allowed enough time to perfect the design, proof and print, start the process of creating your invites three or four months prior to your date.
Have I included all the key information?
The details that you really, really need to include front and center are:
The names of you and your partner (and the host line—if you’re having one)
The day and time of your wedding
The location(s) of your wedding (you may need a separate reception card)
Did I address other details about the day?
You can use the back of your invite or utilize “corner space” to cover details such as:
- Registry information
- Dress code
- Accommodations
- Directions
Depending on your invite size and format, you may not have room to cover all of this on your invite—that’s where additional information cards come in. Alternatively, direct your guests to your wedding website, though keep in mind that you may have guests who aren’t as comfortable going online (or are just too lazy to do so).
Do I have a way for guests to RSVP?
Be sure to let your guests know when you need their responses. These days, it’s common for couples to give guests a couple different ways to RSVP—the traditional reply card, a website form, even texting. A physical RSVP card remains popular because not only is it better for guests who aren’t internet-savvy, it also serves as a tangible reminder for your guests to RSVP. Don’t forget to include an envelope for your RSVP card, and consider pre-stamping them for your guests’ convenience.
Did I include my return address?
No matter how conscientious you are about collecting addresses, odds are you’ll still have an invite or two run into issues with the postal service, so be sure your return address is included on the invitation envelope. This way you’ll know whose invites weren’t delivered and you’ll be able to resend—and hopefully avoid any tears over cousin Louise thinking she wasn’t invited to the celebration.
